After a quick stop for lunch at Hood River (one of the larger cities along the banks) we made our way to our base. The Best Western at Cascade Locks is right on the river and right by the Bridge of the Gods.
If you stay here yourself, be warned there is a railroad track right by the river. It's freight so goes through the night. The hotel kindly supplies ear plugs in the rooms! Watching the sun go down from the balcony largely makes up for the noise.
Note the bridge is one of the few toll bridges ($1 for a car) and if you're wondering about the name, it has a nice story behind it.
