30 minutes south of Yakima is Toppenish. This is a good place to stop if you want to take in the wineries being close to Zillah and about 30 minutes north of Prosser, so fairly central.
This small city has its own story to tell as well though. Numerous murals cover the walls of shops and billboards.
More info and the complete set can be found here. West of the city is predominantly flat farm land and some of the back roads off US 97 provide some more good views of the mountains.
The Yakama tribe cultural information center is also just off the 97 a few miles north. Also available here is a restaurant and RV camp.
